The Kooks - Naive Lyrics/Interpretation

I'm not saying it was your fault
Although you could have done more

Oh you're so naive yet so

How could this be done
Your such a smiling sweetheart
Oh and your sweet and pretty face
In such an ugly way
Something so beautiful
That everytime I look inside

I know that she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it may be
She's still out to get me

I know that she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it may be
She's still out to get me

I may say it was your fault
Cause I know you could have done more

Oh you're so naive yet so

How could this be done
By such a smiling sweetheart
Oh and your sweet and pretty face
In such an ugly way something so beautiful
Everytime I look inside

I know that she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it may be
She's still out to get me

I know that she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it may be
She's still out to get me

How could this be done
By such a smiling sweetheart

Oh you're so naive yet so

Such an ugly thing
Someone so beautiful
And everytime you're on his side

I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it maybe be she's still out to get me

And I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking
True or false it maybe be she's still out to get me

Just don't let me down
Just don't let me down
Hold on to your kite
Just don't let me down
Just don't let me down
Hold on to your kite
Just don't let me down
Just don't let me down
Hold on to this kite
Just don't let me down

Interpretation

To me it sounds like she's cheating and he knows it, and she knows he knows, but he doesn't want to bring it up.

lines that support this :
"And everytime you're on his side"
suggest cheating

"I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking"
suggests what i said about him not wanting to bring it up

"Oh you're so naive yet so"
naive in that she thought he wouldnt find out

How this will effect my narrative plan

This will affect my narrative plan for the music video as it will mean that i will have to base the narrative around the lyrics of the song. We already have several ideas for this and these include :

1. A close up shot of a boy with girls talking around him and him showing no emotion or even noticing their existence. This will link well with the idea of naivity throughout the text.

2. Several shots with the boy having a look of distinct worry and nervousness around females. This fits into context with the line "I know she knows that I'm not fond of asking"

3. A mishot of a boy walking noticing the girl he likes walking with another boy and a surge of anger becoming distinctly apparent, this fits into the whole context of the song but in particularly with the repeated line "And everytime you're on his side"
